Prayer Reflection: #32

The Attributes of God

God, You reveal deep things out of darkness and bring the shadow of death into the light. You make nations great and destroy them; You enlarge nations and disperse them. (Job 12:22-23)

Blessed be Your name, O God, for ever and ever, for wisdom and power belong to You. You change the times and the seasons; You raise up kings and depose them. You give wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding. You reveal deep and hidden things; You know what is in the darkness, and light dwells with You. (Daniel 2:20-22)

Pause to reflect on these affirmations about the person, powers and perfection of God.

The Works of God

You, O Son of Man, did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give Your life as a ransom for many. (Mark 10:45) Lord Jesus, how can I thank You for the suffering You endured for my sake?: During Your trials some began to spit at You and blindfold You and strike You with their fists and say to You, “Prophesy!” And the guards received You with slaps in the face. The soldiers put a purple robe on You, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on You. And they began to call out to You, “Hail, king of the Jews!” Again and again they struck You on the head with a staff and spit on You, and bending their knees, they paid mock homage to You. When they crucified You, those who passed by hurled insults at You, wagging their heads and saying, “Ha! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself and come down from the cross!” And at the ninth hour You cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which means, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Mark 14:65; 15:17–19, 29–30, 34)

Take a moment to consider the greatness of God’s wonderful works.

My Relationship to God

Who are those that fear You, O Lord? You will instruct them in the way they should choose.

(Psalm 25:12) You will instruct me and teach me in the way I should go; You will counsel me and watch over me. (Psalm 32:8)

Pause to thank God for the relationship that you enjoy with Him in Jesus Christ.

The Character I Want to Cultivate

If we pursue righteousness and love, we will find life, righteousness and honor. (Proverbs 21:21)

The goal of the instruction of Your Word, O Lord, is love that comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. (1 Timothy 1:5)

Take a moment to ask the Lord for the grace to grow in godly character.

My Relationship To Others

Houses and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from You, Lord. (Proverbs 19:14) Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears You, Lord, shall be praised. (Proverbs 31 :30)

Pause to review your relationships with others and to commit them to the Lord.
