Prayer Reflection: #26

The Attributes of God

Nothing is too difficult for You, O Lord. (Genesis 18:14)

All things are possible with You, O God. (Matthew 19:26; Mark 10:27)

Pause to reflect on these affirmations about the person, powers and perfection of God.

The Works of God

O Servant of God, people despised and rejected You; You were a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And like one from whom people hide their faces, you were despised, and we did not esteem You. Surely You have borne our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered You stricken, smitten by God and afflicted. But You were pierced for our transgressions, You were crushed for our iniquities; The punishment that brought us peace was upon You, and by Your wounds we are healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray, all of us have turned to our own way, and the Lord has laid on You the iniquity of us all. (Isaiah 53:3–6)

Jesus, You who are the Son of Man, did not come to be served, but to serve and to give Your life as a ransom for many. (Matthew 20:28)

Take a moment to consider the greatness of God’s wonderful works.

My Relationship to God

I know that my old self was crucified with You, O Christ, so that the body of sin might be done away with, that I should no longer be a slave to sin; for anyone who has died has been freed from sin. (Romans 6:6–7)

Through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with You, O Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but You live in me. The life that I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in You, the Son of God, who loved me and gave Yourself for me. (Galatians 2:19–20)

Pause to thank God for the relationship that you enjoy with Him in Jesus Christ.

The Character I Want to Cultivate

To fear You, Lord, is instruction for wisdom, and humility comes before honor. (Proverbs 15:33)

O Lord, thank You for the truth You have spoken when You said, “Let not those who are wise boast of wisdom, and let not those who are strong boast of strength, and let not those who are rich boast of riches; but let those who boast boast about this: that they understand and know Me, that I am the Lord, who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for in these I delight.” (Jeremiah 9:23–24)

Take a moment to ask the Lord for the grace to grow in godly character.

My Relationship to Others

Your commandments will be upon my heart, and I will teach them diligently to my children and talk about them when I sit in my house and when I walk along the way and when I lie down and when I rise up. (Deuteronomy 6:6–7)

Wise children heed their parent’s instruction, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke. (Proverbs 13:1)

Pause to review your relationships with others and to commit them to the Lord.
