Prayer Reflection: #20

The Attributes of God

As for You, O God, Your way is perfect; Your word, O Lord, is proven. You are a shield for all who take refuge in You. For who are You, O God, besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except You, who are our God? (2 Samuel 22:31–32)

Lord, You long to be gracious and rise to show compassion. For You, O Lord, are a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for You! (Isaiah 30:18)

Pause to reflect on these affirmations about the person, powers and perfection of God.

The Works of God

The heavens declare Your glory, O God,

and the skies proclaim the work of Your hands.

Day after day they pour forth speech;

Night after night they reveal knowledge. (Psalm 19:1–2)

You, O Lord, are the great God,

the great King above all gods.

In Your hand are the depths of the earth;

The summits of the mountains are Yours also.

The sea is Yours, for You made it, and Your hands

formed the dry land.

You are our God and we are the people of Your pasture

and the sheep under Your care. (Psalm 95:3–5, 7)

Take a moment to consider the greatness of God’s wonderful works.

My Relationship to God

You have loved me with an everlasting love; You have drawn me with lovingkindness. (Jeremiah 31:3)

Who shall separate me from Your love, O Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger or sword? As it is written: “For Your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” Yet in all these things I am more than a conqueror through You who love me. (Romans 8:35–37)

Pause to thank God for the relationship that you enjoy with Him in Jesus Christ.

The Character I Want to Cultivate

I am not trying to win the approval of other people; I want to win Your approval, O God. If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. (Galatians 1:10)

Since I have been approved by You, O God, to be entrusted with the gospel, I speak not as one who wants to please people but instead so as to please You, the One who tests my heart. I will not seek glory from people. (1 Thessalonians 2:4, 6)

Take a moment to ask the Lord for the grace to grow in godly character.

My Relationship to Others

You have called me to go and proclaim Your kingdom, O God. (Luke 9:60)

As the Father has sent You, You also send us, Lord Jesus. (John 20:21)

Pause to review your relationships with others and to commit them to the Lord.
