Prayer Reflection: #19

The Attributes of God

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for everything in heaven and earth is Yours. Yours, O Lord, is the kingdom, and You are exalted as head over all. Both riches and honor come from You, and You are the ruler of all things. In Your hand is power and might to exalt and to give strength to all. Therefore, my God, I give You thanks and praise Your glorious name. All things come from You, and I can only give You what comes from Your hand. (1 Chronicles 29:11–14)

Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of

Your kingdom. (Psalm 45:6)

Pause to reflect on these affirmations about the person, powers and perfection of God.

The Works of God

Apart from the law, Your righteousness, O God, has been made known, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even Your righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. For there is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of Your glory, O God, being justified freely by Your grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. (Romans 3:21–24)

At the right time, when we were helpless, Christ died for the ungodly. For rarely will anyone die for one who is righteous, though perhaps for a good person someone would even dare to die. But You, O God, demonstrate Your own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:6–8)

Take a moment to consider the greatness of God’s wonderful works.

My Relationship to God

No one who waits for You will be ashamed, but the one who is treacherous without cause

will be ashamed. Show me Your ways, O Lord, teach me Your paths; Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation, and my hope is in You all day long. (Psalm 25:3–5)

You have plans for me, O Lord; You have declared that you have plans to prosper me and not to harm me, plans to give me a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Pause to thank God for the relationship that you enjoy with Him in Jesus Christ.

The Character I Want to Cultivate

I will be strong and courageous, being careful to obey Your word, O Lord; I will not turn from it to the right or to the left, that I may act wisely wherever I go. (Joshua 1:7)

I will take courage and not be afraid, for You, Lord Jesus, are with me. (Mark 6:50)

Take a moment to ask the Lord for the grace to grow in godly character.

My Relationship to Others

We have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function; in the same way we who are many are one body in You, O Jesus Christ, and individually members of one another. And we have different gifts, according to the grace You have given to us. (Romans 12:4–6)

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. And there are different kinds of working, but You are the same God who works all of them in all people. But to each one the manifestation of Your Spirit is given for the common good. (1 Corinthians 12:4–7)

Pause to review your relationships with others and to commit them to the Lord.
