Prayer Reflection: #16

The Attributes of God

O Lord, You will be gracious to whom You will be gracious, and You will have compassion on whom You will have compassion. (Exodus 33:19)

Lord Jesus, You are holy and true; You hold the key of David. What You open no one can shut, and what You shut no one can open. (Revelation 3:7)

Pause to reflect on these affirmations about the person, powers and perfection of God.

The Works of God O God, You are the maker of the Bear and Orion, the Pleiades and the constellations of the south. You do great things that cannot be fathomed and wonderful works that cannot be counted. (Job 9:9–10)

The day is Yours, O God; the night also is Yours;

You established the sun and moon.

It was You who set all the boundaries of the earth;

You made both summer and winter. (Psalm 74:16–17)

Take a moment to consider the greatness of God’s wonderful works.

My Relationship to God

I will not depend on human strength but on You, O Lord my God, for help and deliverance. (2 Chronicles 16:7–8, 12)

I will trust in You, Lord, and do good;

I will dwell in the land and feed on Your faithfulness.

I will delight myself in You, Lord, and You will give me

the desires of my heart.

I will commit my way to You, Lord, and trust in You,

and You will bring it to pass.

I will rest in You, Lord, and wait patiently for You;

I will not fret because of those who prosper in their

way, because of those who practice evil schemes.

(Psalm 37:3–5, 7)

Pause to thank God for the relationship that you enjoy with Him in Jesus Christ.

The Character I Want to Cultivate

Before I was afflicted, I went astray, O Lord,

but now I keep Your word.

It was good for me to be afflicted, so that I might learn

Your statutes. (Psalm 119:67, 71)

I will not despise Your discipline, O Lord, nor lose heart when You rebuke me, for whom You love You discipline, and You chastise every child whom You receive. (Hebrews 12:5–6)

Take a moment to ask the Lord for the grace to grow in godly character.

My Relationship to Others

We who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those who are not strong and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up. (Romans 15:1–2)

I am not to seek my own good, but rather the good of others. (1 Corinthians 10:24)

Pause to review your relationships with others and to commit them to the Lord.
