Prayer Reflection: #10

The Attributes of God

You, O Lord, will guard the feet of Your saints, but the wicked will be silenced in darkness. It is not by strength that one prevails; Those who contend with You, Lord, will be shattered. You will thunder against them from heaven; You will judge the ends of the earth. You will give strength to Your king and exalt the horn of Your anointed.

(1 Samuel 2:9–10)

You have sworn by Yourself; The word has gone out of Your mouth in righteousness

and will not return. Every knee will bow before You, and every tongue will acknowledge You. (Isaiah 45:23)

Pause to reflect on these affirmations about the person, powers and perfection of God.

The Works of God

You, Lord God, will swallow up death forever, and You will wipe away the tears from  very face; You will remove the reproach of Your people from all the earth, for You, the Lord, have spoken. And it will be said in that day, “Behold, this is our God; We have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the Lord; we have trusted in Him. Let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.”

(Isaiah 25:8–9)

You will create new heavens and a new earth, O Sovereign Lord. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. (Isaiah 65:17)

Take a moment to consider the greatness of God’s wonderful works.

My Relationship to God

How great is Your goodness, O Lord, which You have

stored up for those who fear You,

which You have prepared for those who take refuge

  in You in the sight of others! (Psalm 31:19)

You know how I am formed;

You remember that I am dust.

As for people, their days are like grass;

They flourish like flowers of the field.

The wind passes over them and they are gone,

and their place remembers them no more.

But Your lovingkindness, O Lord,

is from everlasting to everlasting to those who fear You,

and Your righteousness with their children’s children,

to those who keep Your covenant and remember

  to obey Your precepts. (Psalm 103:14–18)

Pause to thank God for the relationship that you enjoy with Him in Jesus Christ.

The Character I Want to Cultivate If I am afraid of people, fear will trap me. But if I trust in You, O Lord, You will keep me safe.

(Proverbs 29:25)

Cursed is the one who trusts in people, who depends on human strength and whose heart turns away from You, O Lord. But blessed is the one who trusts in You, whose confidence is in You.

(Jeremiah 17:5, 7)

Take a moment to ask the Lord for the grace to grow in godly character.

My Relationship to Others A virtuous wife is the crown of her husband, but she who causes shame is like decay in his bones.

(Proverbs 12:4)

Who can find a virtuous wife? She is worth far more than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her so that he has no lack of gain. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.

(Proverbs 31:10–12)

Pause to review your relationships with others and to commit them to the Lord.
