The Attributes of God
Great are You, Lord, and most worthy of praise;
You are to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are idols,
but You made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before You;
Strength and beauty are in Your sanctuary.
I will ascribe to You, O Lord, glory and strength.
I will ascribe to You the glory due Your name
and worship You in the beauty of holiness. (Psalm 96:4–9)
Holy, Holy, Holy are You, Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of Your glory. (Isaiah 6:3)
Pause to reflect on these affirmations about the person, powers and perfection of God.
The Works of God
O Lord, You uphold all who fall and lift up all
who are bowed down.
The eyes of all look to You, and You give them their
food at the proper time.
You open Your hand and satisfy the desire
of every living thing. (Psalm 145:14–16)
Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You and praise Your name, For You have done wonderful things—things planned long ago in perfect faithfulness. (Isaiah 25:1)
Take a moment to consider the greatness of God’s wonderful works.
My Relationship to God I know, O my Redeemer, that You live, and that in the end You will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see You, O God; I myself will see You and behold You with my own eyes and not another. How my heart yearns within me! (Job 19:25–27)
I have hope in You, O God, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. In view of this I strive always to keep my conscience blameless before You and before people. (Acts 24:15–16)
Pause to thank God for the relationship that you enjoy with Him in Jesus Christ.
The Character I Want to Cultivate
I will be strong and courageous; I will not be afraid or discouraged because of my adversaries, for there is a greater power with me than with them, for You, O Lord my God, are with me to help me. (2 Chronicles 32:7–8)
I will not be afraid of my adversaries, but I will remember You, Lord, who are great and awesome. (Nehemiah 4:14)
Take a moment to ask the Lord for the grace to grow in godly character.
My Relationship to Others
Far be it from me that I should sin against You, Lord, by ceasing to pray for others. (1 Samuel 12:23)
I will do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility I will esteem others as more important than myself. I will look not only to my own interests, but also to the interests of others. (Philippians 2:3–4)
Pause to review your relationships with others and to commit them to the Lord.
