Prayer Reflection: #6

The Attributes of God

I acknowledge this day and take it to my heart that You, Lord, are God in heaven above and on the earth below; there is no other. (Deuteronomy 4:39)

You are the Lord, and there is no other; Apart from You there is no God. From the rising of the sun to its setting, we know there is none besides You. You are the Lord, and there is no other. (Isaiah 45:5–6)

Pause to reflect on these affirmations about the person, powers and perfection of God.

The Works of God

Lord, we look forward to the day when Your kingdom will come in all its fullness: The wolf will dwell with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the goat, and the calf and the lion and the yearling together, and a little child will lead them. The cow will feed with the bear; Their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child will put his hand into the viper’s hole. They will neither harm nor destroy on all Your holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of You,   O Lord, as the waters cover the sea. (Isaiah 11:6–9)

The heavens will vanish like smoke; The earth will wear out like a garment, and its inhabitants will die in the same way. But Your salvation, O Lord, will last forever, and Your righteousness will never fail. (Isaiah 51:6)

Take a moment to consider the greatness of God’s wonderful works.

My Relationship to God

O Lord, You are my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in You, and I am helped. My heart greatly rejoices, and I will give thanks to You in song. (Psalm 28:7)

I will not let my heart be troubled. I will trust in You, Father, and also in Christ. (John 14:1)

Pause to thank God for the relationship that you enjoy with Him in Jesus Christ.

The Character I Want to Cultivate

Instruct those who are wise, and they will be wiser still; Teach those who are righteous, and they will increase in learning. (Proverbs 9:9)

If I heed instruction, I am on the path of life, but those who refuse correction go astray. (Proverbs 10:17)

Take a moment to ask the Lord for the grace to grow in godly character.

My Relationship to Others

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim Your peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim Your salvation. (Isaiah 52:7; Nahum 1:15)

As I follow You, You will make me a fisher of people. (Matthew 4:19; Mark 1:17)

Pause to review your relationships with others and to commit them to the Lord.
