Prayer Reflection: #5

The Attributes of God
Who is like You, O Lord? Who is like You—majestic in holiness, awesome in praises, working wonders? (Exodus 15:11)

You, O Lord, have declared:
“My thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways My ways.
As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are My ways higher than your ways, and
My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8–9)

Pause to reflect on these affirmations about the person, powers and perfection of God.

The Works of God
How great are Your works, O Lord!
Your thoughts are very deep.
Senseless people do not know;
Fools do not understand that though the wicked spring
up like grass and all the evildoers flourish,
  they will be destroyed forever.
But You, O Lord, are exalted forever. (Psalm 92:5–7)

You, O Lord, are near to all who call upon You,
to all who call upon You in truth.
You fulfill the desires of those who fear You;
You hear their cry and save them.
You preserve all who love You, but
all the wicked You will destroy. (Psalm 145:18–20)

Take a moment to consider the greatness of God’s wonderful works.

My Relationship to God
I am the salt of the earth, but if the salt loses its flavor, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. I am the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. In the same way, I must let my light shine before all people, that they may see my good deeds and praise You, my Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:13–16)

We are Your temple, O God, and Your Spirit lives in us. (1 Corinthians 3:16)

Pause to thank God for the relationship that you enjoy with Him in Jesus Christ.

The Character I Want to Cultivate
When I am blessed with abundance, I will beware lest my heart become proud, and I forget You, O Lord my God, who provide all good things—lest I think that it was my power and the strength of my hand that brought this wealth. (Deuteronomy 8:12–14, 17)

If I am proud, I will be destroyed;
If I have a haughty spirit, I will fall.
(Proverbs 16:18)

Take a moment to ask the Lord for the grace to grow in godly character.

My Relationship to Others
How good and pleasant it is when brothers and sisters
live together in unity! (Psalm 133: 1)

Lord Jesus, You prayed these words for the unity of all who would believe in You: “I ask that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You, that they also may be in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me, that they may be perfected in one, that the world may know that You have sent Me and have loved them, even as You have loved Me.” (John 17:21–23)

Pause to review your relationships with others and to commit them to the Lord.
