Weekly Inspiration: “True Life in Christ”

Scripture:
“He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” — 1 John 5:12 (KJV)

Historical Context:
1 John was written by the Apostle John to early Christians, around A.D. 85-95, encouraging them to remain strong in their faith despite false teachings circulating at the time. In this letter, John emphasizes that eternal life is found in Jesus Christ alone. 1 John 5:12 makes it clear that life itself—true and eternal life—is tied to our relationship with the Son of God. Without Jesus, there is no life. John presents a simple but profound truth: possessing Jesus is possessing life.

Greek Word Insight:

  • “Life” (Greek: zoe): This term refers to eternal life, the quality of life that Jesus offers, which goes beyond mere physical existence.
  • “Hath” (Greek: echo): This verb indicates possessing or holding onto something.
  • “Son of God” (Greek: huios tou theou): This phrase affirms Jesus’ divine nature as the unique Son of God, who brings life to those who receive Him.

Reflection:
Jesus tells us plainly in the gospels that He is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through Him. To many, living a life filled with worldly success seems appealing. Ambition drives us to work hard and pursue the rush of achievement. We often look at those who are “successful” and think that by following their path, we will find fulfillment too. But tragically, the stories of those who achieve worldly success often end in brokenness—oppression, addiction, and deep struggles reveal the true inner state of their hearts. These individuals, despite their success, are the “living dead,” walking in hollow shells because they have not received the One who truly gives life—Jesus Christ. True success is not found in worldly accomplishments but in the transformation that Jesus brings. The real success stories are those who were once dead but have been made truly alive through Christ. These “living testimonies” stand boldly in their fields—whether in music, sports, or entertainment—declaring how Jesus saved their lives, pulled them from the pit of sorrow, and restored them. This is what it means to have life. This is what it means to have Jesus.

Prayer:
“Lord Jesus, though I was once dead, I thank You that You have made me truly alive. May I never look at the things of this world the same way again, as You have made it known in my life that You are my true success story. It’s in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”

Action Step:
Today, reflect on the true source of life—Jesus. Consider how your own definition of success may have been influenced by the world, and take a moment to realign your perspective. Recognize that your true success is found in Christ alone, and allow His life to flow through every part of your journey.
